If your social media alerts are not arriving as expected, this guide will help you diagnose and resolve common issues.
Check Discord and MEE6 Settings
- Bot Permissions & Role Hierarchy
Ensure MEE6 (or custom bot) has the necessary permissions and is placed high in the role hierarchy.
Misconfigured permissions can block alerts. Check the required permissions and role hierarchy. - Target Channel Type
Alerts must be posted in a classic text channel. Announcement, forum, or stage channels are not supported. - Custom Bot Configuration
If using a custom bot, verify settings in the Discord Developer Portal.
Ensure that all three Privileged Gateway Intents are enabled. OAuth2 must be turned off.
Check Social Media Platform Settings
- Platform Limitations
Some platforms restrict data access, especially for new accounts or flagged content (NSFW, alcohol, crypto-related, etc.). These restrictions can delay or block alerts. - Indexing and Restrictions
If your account is new, it may not yet be indexed, meaning it won’t appear in public search results.
Open your account’s link in an incognito window—if you see a login prompt or restriction message like on the screenshot below, platform limitations might be the cause. - Test with a Big and Public Account
Set up an alert for a public, frequently posting account like Formula 1, AFP or BBC.
If alerts work for these accounts but not yours, platform restrictions may be the cause.
Please note: Social Media Alerts Plugins are subject to limits and restrictions. See MEE6 Social Alerts for Discord: Limits and Restrictions to understand those limits.
